Travelling under 100ml
It’s coming to that of year again, you’ve booked that dream holiday and you can’t wait to be pool side with a very large Cosmo soaking up that glorious sun, one problem though.. How do you travel under 100ml is the real question?
Ok, so we've all been there at that notorious security check in, just when you thought you’d crammed all your little minis into that tiny clear bag, security then ask you to take everything out and just to ‘check,’ little do they know it’s taken me 15 minutes alone just to try an squeeze everything in that bag from lip balm to a cleanser.
Am I the only person that it happens to? I’ve even had to part ways with some stuff and literally throw it the bin (heartbreaking) because I couldn’t fit all my goodies back into the plastic bag. So I decided I need to start thinking a head, if I want to fly through security (literally) I needed to start thinking tactically.
For me this is easy when it comes to liquids, it's all skincare for me, I would rather put any make up products in my case, purely for the fact that I don't like to travel with make up on - I know don't ask. I just feel on a flight my skin can really dry out and doesn't look the best, so I would rather sit with a ton of moisturiser on than wear make up - however I know some of my bestest friends love the whole 'airport attire.' Me I'm more of a get up and GLOW kind of girl, I want my skin hydrated but GLOWING, I mean you never know who your going to bump into at passport control right?
So this weekend I’m actually flying down to one of my favourite places in the UK, Cornwall. I am visiting my friend for the umpteen time who lives down there and I thought why not fly down, it made sense especially with the January sales, the only downside is my skincare! Usually when I drive down I bring everything but the kitchen sink, so flying definitely has it's pros and cons, nevertheless I thought this time round I really need to decide what skincare truly is essential to me and that I need to remember I'm only going for a weekend not a month, so here's what what what I've narrowed it down too:
Cleanser - This is the single most important product for me in general never mind when travelling, so what I like to do is either buy a mini version of my favourite cleanser or just scoop out some and place into a small container. In this case it's Elemis Pro Collagen cleansing balm, I purchased the mini one off ASOS which cost £9 which will last me for a while never mind just the weekend, this mini tub is 20ml, it's small enough to fit in anywhere and of course it's under 100ml, no brainer in my eyes.
An acidic toner is a MUST for me all year round, I honestly cannot live without my Pixi Glow Tonic, only one problem my larger size is 250ml, I wouldn't even get passed check in at Manchester airport let alone security. So again I went on the hunt for my favourite for a mini version, this is what I much prefer to do that way I know I love the products I'm taking away with me but also I know my skin loves these products too. So for my acidic toner is non other than Glow Tonic yet this super tiny size is 15ml, how cute! This cost £5 and so much more easier than faffing around trying to get this into a smaller bottle. I also like to take with me some cotton pads to apply this with but thankfully they can go into my case.
Hydrator - Do we seriously need to even ask what my all time favourite hydrator is? Yes you guessed it, Intense Hydrating Booster from Sarah Chapman Skinesis, this woman can work miracles! I am forever picking up thesecute mini's from the Selfridges travel section and they will truly fit anywhere they are really handy. So I've decided I only need one small bottle which to buy is £12.50 now although you don't get a hell of a lot of product, this is still ideal for travelling with and something that certainly does not leave my side. I even purchased the travel size before buying the larger size in case I didn't love as I didn't want to break the bank - kill two birds with one stone if you ask me.
Moisturiser - Same again pretty much for moisturiser I like to make it as simple as possible, so I have purchased my favourite moisturiser yet in a mini form also from ASOS which was also £9, obviously you don’t have to go out and buy a new moisturiser, my advice would be to either go into a store an ask for some samples they will be more than happy to help or get a small tub/container and scoop out some of your current moisturiser and your good to glow.
Lips - KEY product in my eyes and something you DO NOT want to forget, we’ve all been there when we've woken up from the most uncomfortable nap and your mouth and lips are as dry as the black Friday sales, so you want to ensure you've got your handy dandy lip balm to hand, if your like me I always tend to pick up a new one in the airport but you can still always take your own. This is no time to be trying out new lip balms - stick to what you know, your going to need all the hydration you can get!
Mist - Ok so I'm keeping it 100% real I am extra AF and like to take a facial mist on board with me, there is no worse feeling than feeling hot and bothered on a cramped plane, so this time I'm taking my Clinique Moisture Surge spray which is so handy and easy to fly with and certainly gives my 'thirsty' skin that good dose of hydration it needs even at 38,000 feet, this is great for all skin types too and even better it's 30ml.
TIP : As I do like to make things as simple as possible as I’m staying in the UK this time around I will get some toiletries when I land, I know when you go abroad it can be a little expensive but it just saves having to throw away any items at security, something I would highly avoid at all costs!
If you do need to take extra products, you can always purchase small travel pots from places such as Primark for as little as £1, if you are travelling with family each person is allowed one clear bag each, make use of your partners, I mean surely his shaving creams can go into his case right?
Now that you've mastered that dreaded security, I like to head straight to Duty Free where I like to relax with a large Sauvignon, and of course no other than to buy every bit of skincare in sight, I mean it would be rude not too right? It is duty free afterall..
